Marcel Riesco was born in Montevideo, Uruguay some time ago... He grew up and lived there until he was 18 years old and dropped out of Law School to travel to Europe and the USA. He had formed his first band when he was 13 years old. The Truly Lover Band started playing underground bars, now legendary as La Noche Pub, Marraques Café, El Bacilon, talent shows, city festivals, FM radio, and talk shows on television. In the US, with new musicians, the Truly Lover Trio played a series of Festivals (“The bands were beginning to play and feeling guilty that I missed most of Truly Lover Trio’s set, I ran backstage to meet this kid with his handsome, boyish face and crooner vocals: this kid will go places” – Blue Suede News. Fall 1998). The 45rpm EP Lonely Blue Dreams was released on Sunset Records (Sunset Records #101) in 1998, and is now a rare item. In 1999, Marcel went back to Uruguay to play the Montevideo Blues Festival as a surprise act, and after that he was asked to record an album, but due to different circumstances the recordings were never released. During that same visit he was invited to play a concert as part of a series of theater concerts. Marcel proudly picked a special Guest that night: icon singer Eduardo Darnauchans, one of the music legends of Uruguay. The reviews were fantastic. In 2002, he settled down in Los Angeles, California and with his new band started playing steadily across town and gaining popularity. The sound developed to a very unique one, and the Truly Lover Trio became one of the hottest acts in the highly competitive Los Angeles music scene. The band toured throughout the West Coast, from Seattle, Washington, down to Rosarito, Mexico. San Francisco and San Diego also became popular spots for the Truly Lover Trio and so did Phoenix, Arizona. In 2004, El Toro Records from Spain (“a company known for finding some of the freshest talent in rock and roll music have another winner on their hands with the Truly Lover Trio” – Greg Yost, Blue Suede News, Summer 2004) released their first CD entitled Hey Little Girl! One Way Magazine
(June-July 2004) catalogued the album as one essential title. “Hey
Little Girl! heat things up while slower songs like Lonely Blue Dreams, My Laurie and
King of Hearts showcase Riesco’s voice, which often
gets compared to Roy Orbison’s legendary pipes (Greg Yost, Blue Suede
News, Summer 2004). “The CD also includes two of Marcel’s original demos: Blueberry Eyes and Surfrider. Another cool addition is a track in Spanish, Tu No Eres Para Mi, that really is a catchy tune. Who knew Rockabilly in Spanish sounded so good?!. Overall, this album is a great listen (Rockabilly Monthly – June 2004). In 2005, the Truly Lover Trio appeared on Los Angeles Television for the first time, on the show LA TV Live. In June, the trio left for a 2 ½ week European tour starting with the Screamin’ Festival in Barcelona followed by shows in Copenhagen and Amsterdam including the D Day Festival, My Way Jamboree in Finland, the Mid-Summer Jamboree in Sweden. The reviews look good, but we are still looking for a translator…. The style of Truly Lover Trio developed into something between an electric and contemporary Roy Orbison with a late 1950s and early 1960s Rock and Roll punch and some Rockabilly you wont easily forget. Truly Lover Trio’s latest album, DANCE (released on Twinkletone Records) it's out now available worldwide. It features all new material and its being played on radio stations worldwide (see multimedia and reviews sections on this website) Their latest major adventure was performing as a featured artist at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 11th Annual American Masters Series honoring Roy Orbison in Cleveland, Ohio, with Glen Campbell, Raul Malo, Rocky Burnette, Jack Clement and other greats. Recently, they toured New York and were featured in a movie with John Schneider of Dukes of Hazzard and Smartville fame. Just returned from another successful European tour, future plans include a concert at the Arizona State University Auditorium (Tempe) celebrating Roy's Lifetime Achievement Award, a tour of New Mexico and Texas, and a new record. So, keep your eyes and ears open. They are truly something different.
